Where to drop off dried-out Christmas tree

Fresh Christmas trees can be disposed of free of charge at numerous drop-off points within Placer County.

Auburn residents can take trees to the Auburn Fire Department, 1225 Lincoln Way, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 7-12, or to the Auburn Transfer Station, Shale Ridge Road off Highway 49, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Jan. 12.

In Roseville, trees can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Jan. 5 at Maidu Park, 1550 Maidu Drive; at Mahany Park, Woodcreek Oaks and Pleasant Grove boulevards; and at a collection point on Washington Boulevard across from the All American Speedway, 800 All America City Blvd.

In Rocklin, trees will be accepted through Jan. 5 at Johnson-Springview Park, 5480 Fifth St., and Twin Oaks Park, Park Drive north of Sunset Road.

Granite Bay collection hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 4-6 at Wilma Cavitt Junior High School, 7200 Fuller Drive, and Jan. 5- 6 at Miners Ravine Park, 7530 Auburn-Folsom Road.

Trees also can be recycled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Del Oro High School, 3301 Taylor Road, Loomis; 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Jan. 6 at McBean Park, 65 McBean Park Drive, Lincoln; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Jan. 12 at Meadow Vista Tree Farm, 1291 Meadow Vista Road.

Christmas trees also can be cut up and composted at home or chipped to make a fine garden mulch. Information on composting is available by calling the University of California Cooperative Extension at (530) 889-7399.
