Four Placer County projects will receive a combined $3.4 million through a federal budget bill signed Wednesday by President Bush, Placer officials reported.
The largest grant will provide nearly $1.6 million for a countywide technology program to improve communications between the Sheriff's Department and other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, a county news release said.
Placer County's Sub-Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant will receive $936,000, which will increase the project's federal funding to an estimated $5 million, the news release said.
Other grants include $492,000 to a biomass utilization pilot project in eastern Placer County and $380,000 for the second phase of construction of a children's health center and emergency shelter.
Biomass utilization is a process that converts dead tree limbs and other forest debris into forms of clean energy.
The children's health center and emergency shelter is a facility for abused or neglected youngsters whose parents are temporarily unable to care for them.
County supervisors credited Rep. John Doolittle of Roseville and Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer for helping garner support for the projects.
