Published: Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 | Page 2B

AUBURN – Placer County will receive nearly $1.6 million for a countywide technology program to improve communications between the Sheriff's Department and other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, a county news release said.

The technology grant was one of four projects that will receive a combined $3.4 million through a federal budget bill signed Wednesday by President Bush, Placer officials reported.

Placer County's Sub-Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant will receive $936,000, which will increase the project's federal funding to an estimated $5 million, the news release said.

Other grants include $492,000 to a biomass utilization pilot project and $380,000 for the second phase of construction of a children's health center and emergency shelter.
