AUBURN The Placer County Board of Supervisors approved a contract Tuesday for nearly $4.7 million for Teichert Construction to widen Auburn-Folsom Road from Granite Bay to Folsom.
The bid was nearly $3 million less than county engineers estimated, said Ken Grehm, director of public works.
"Bids for construction have been coming down because there is not as much work out there," he said. "With the savings on this bid, we hope to start planning for the second phase of widening."
The first phase will widen the road from two to four lanes between Fuller Drive and the county line. The second phase calls for widening a stretch of it in Granite Bay, and the third phase, north toward Auburn, Grehm said.
