GRANITE BAY After four years of declining enrollment, Eureka Union School District will close two campuses and open a charter school in 2009.
District trustees approved the proposals Tuesday night, along with recommendations to revamp curriculum and reconfigure grade levels at all campuses in the Granite Bay-based district.
Excelsior and Eureka elementary schools in Roseville will close in the fall of 2009, saving the district $900,000 a year, Superintendent Bob Schultz said. The property will be leased.
A district-sponsored charter school focused on "global learning" is scheduled to open August 2009 on a campus currently shared by Oakhills and Ridgeview elementary schools in Granite Bay.
The new plans were drawn from 10 recommendations by educators and community members to help address the district's dropping enrollment and related loss of $600,000 in revenue.
