Bella Vista has two top-ranked wrestlers

Bella Vista's Bryden Lazaro (112 pounds) and Jake Briggs (130) are still No. 1 in the Sac-Joaquin Section, according to the thecaliforniawrestler.com. Five other area wrestlers – defending state champion Vlad Dombrovskyy (140) of Natomas, Kyle West (135) of Oak Ridge, Jordan Williams (171) of El Dorado, Ryan Loder (189) of Granite Bay and Franklin's Peter Anguiano (285) – are first in their classes. Del Oro's Connor Morgan (130) and Corey Johnson (135), are ranked second. Also ranked second are Grant Burkhalter (103) of Bella Vista, Jacob Purdy (112) of Nevada Union, Cody Tow (125) of Union Mine, Elk Grove's Nalan Ludwig (140), Folsom's Jordan Hart (145), Nick Roher (160) of Oak Ridge, Franklin's Raz Niazi (171), James Chandless (189) of Marysville and Brandon Barone (215) of Rocklin. Ponderosa has three wrestlers ranked No. 3: Tim Ditrich (103), Jesse Routsong (130) and Lyndell Scarr (189). Also ranked third are Ben Mandell (135) of Casa Roble, Del Oro's Jesse Stafford (140), Elk Grove's Tylar Clarke (152) and Folsom's Adam Lymath (160).

Grant's Alberghini to be clinic keynote speaker

Grant's Mike Alberghini, a national, state and area Coach of the Year after leading the Pacers to a 14-0 season and state football bowl championship win, will be the keynote speaker at the 28th Clinic of Champions Feb. 27-28 at the Peppermill Resort Casino in Reno. Among area coaches to participate in clinics, aimed at high school and youth football coaches, will be Granite Bay's Ernie Cooper, Pleasant Grove's Joe Cattolico, Whitney's Mike Gimenez and Terry Stark of Inderkum.

Lindhurst sophomore leads rebounders

Sophomore Brenna Gates, a 6-foot-2 forward for Lindhurst, is leading area girls rebounders with a 16.7 average. Her season-high is 31, which she managed in a Dec. 5 loss to Wheatland, but she has had 25 twice in the past four games for the Blazers, 3-17 overall, 2-6 in Golden Empire League play.

Five more area athletes sign letters of intent

Five more area athletes have signed letters of intent.

• Girls soccer: St. Francis' Camile Cholger, USF; Delta's Cassie Rodriguez, South Carolina State; Oak Ridge's Victoria Chambliss, Southern Oregon.

• Track and field: Rio Linda's A.J. Romine, UC Santa Barbara.

• Softball: Woodland's Tanya Holguin, San Diego State.
