Will Pidd of Jesuit High School is in his fourth varsity rugby season. He plays scrum half, rugby's equivalent of quarterback or point guard. Following a season of freshman football, Pidd went out for rugby. "I thought it would be a good thing to do for football," he said, "but I haven't played football since." Pidd said he tried rugby because his cousins, who live in England, play it. He shares five things he loves about rugby:
1. During a game, there's so much competition and brutality, but after the game, both teams are laughing and having a good time with each other.
2. You have to make a split-second decision while someone is about to hit you at full speed.
3. (I love) when those split-second decisions result in a try (score).
4. The game is fueled more by the heart than the muscle. It always seems the team with the most heart, not the most size, is more successful.
5. I love the brotherhood among teammates. It's a really strong bond and extends to rugby players all over the world.
