Raiders wide receiver Javon Walker remained hospitalized Tuesday in Las Vegas after being attacked, robbed and left unconscious early Monday morning.
Walker, 29, suffered "a moderate concussion and significant injuries to his face" Las Vegas police told the Associated Press. Those injuries reportedly include a fractured orbital, the bone surrounding the eye socket.
Police Lt. Clinton Nichols told AP that detectives had spoken with Walker on Monday and planned to speak to him again Tuesday evening. Hard Rock Hotel and Casino spokeswoman Dorian Contrell told the AP that Walker left the club Body English at the Hard Rock about 3:30 a.m. Monday. Police found Walker at the intersection of Koval Lane and Winnick Avenue a little less than four hours later.
Walker reportedly was robbed of $100,000 worth of jewelry and $3,000 in cash. A Raiders spokesman said Monday the team was gathering information and had no further comment.
Nichols also told the San Francisco Chronicle there were possibly two suspects who were captured on surveillance video in the robbery of the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Walker. Walker joined the Raiders as a free agent in March. He signed a six-year contract worth $55 million ($16 million guaranteed) to be the No. 1 receiver the Raiders' offense lacked.
Walker was recovering from a second knee surgery in three seasons before being released by Denver following the 2007 season. Walker tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in 2005 while playing for Green Bay and injured the same knee last year.
Raiders coach Lane Kiffin said he wanted Walker to lose some weight as he continues to recover. Walker has been a regular participant in organized team activities this offseason.
Kiffin is scheduled to speak to the media today following the team's OTA session.
This is not Walker's first brush with violence during his NFL career. While with Denver, Walker was in the vehicle with defensive back Darrent Williams when Williams was killed in a drive-by shooting early on Jan. 1, 2007. Williams reportedly died in Walker's arms.
