Roseville and Rocklin residents and businesses are invited to shred unneeded personal and financial documents from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The Roseville and Rocklin police departments and Cintas Corp. are teaming up to offer the free service, according to a news release.
In Roseville, a shredding truck will be parked at the city of Roseville's municipal parking lot on Oak Street at Washington Boulevard, near Roseville Fire Station 1, the release states.
In Rocklin, the service will be offered in the parking lot of the Rocklin Police Department, 4080 Rocklin Road, according to the release.
Identity thieves often "Dumpster dive," or root through garbage to find personal information they can use to make phony checks or apply for credit, the release states.
The service is limited to three file-size boxes of paperwork per household or business.
There is no need to remove staples, folders, paper clips or other metal bindings.
Cintas' large mobile shredding trucks are equipped with cameras, and participants can witness their paperwork being shredded, the release states.
