Roseville police credited one of their officers for possibly saving the lives of three people trapped in a vehicle that caught fire after it struck a curb, sailed through the air, crash-landed and rolled over three times.
Officer Sean Miner was parked at a gas station at 2:20 a.m. Saturday when he noticed a westbound Cadillac sedan on Pleasant Grove Boulevard hit a curb and launch through the air at the Washington Boulevard intersection, said police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther.
She said the officer grabbed a fire extinguisher from his vehicle and began spraying the flames. He was joined by Officer Andrew Bonner and two citizens who used fire extinguishers to help, Gunther said.
Miner also gave emergency first aid to restore breathing to the driver, who had not been breathing when the officer approached him.
Roseville firefighters arrived and extricated the unconscious driver from the wreckage, she said. One of his two male passengers also needed to be extricated, she said.
The driver, a San Jose resident in his 20s, remains in critical condition at Sutter Roseville Medical Center, Gunther said. The two passengers were treated and released, she said.
Gunther said police are still investigating the accident and have issued no citations.
