Highway 65 near Lincoln was closed for about an hour Thursday afternoon as firefighters battled a 50-acre grass fire nearby.
The highway was shut down in both directions by Califiornia Highway Patrol because smoke from the fire caused low visibility, said Gina Chamberlin, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
The fire was reported at 2:30 p.m. at Athens Avenue in unincorporated Placer County and near the Lincoln city limits. The blaze was contained by 3:30 p.m., and the highway was reopened.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
