SANTA CLARA -- The 49ers will released veteran defensive tackle Darnell Dockett in their effort to reach the 53-man roster limit, a source said Friday morning. Dockett, who is in his 12th season, missed Thursday’s preseason finale with a rib contusion. That injury, however, as not severe enough to keep him of the field during the regular season.
The long-time Cardinals defender also had a $250,000 bonus he would have earned by being on the team's Week 1 roster. Dockett had been lining up at left defensive end when the team was in its nickel defense. Now Tony Jerod-Eddie or perhaps first-round pick Arik Armstead will have that role.
