UC Davis sophomore Paige Lee won her first college title Sunday, shooting a par 71 for a two-shot victory in the Peg Barnard Invitational at Stanford Golf Course, the Aggies reported.
Lee finished at 5-under 137. She was 1 over at the turn in the final round, then made six consecutive pars and birdied the par-3 17th to get back to even.
Junior Andrea Wong tied for 14th at 147.
UCD, ranked 30th, placed second at 11 over, three shots behind Oregon.
Hornets top Utah in baseball
▪ Ty Nichols pitched 61/3 shutout innings, and host Sacramento State scored three runs in the seventh inning to beat Utah 3-1, the Hornets reported.
Sac State (2-1) bunched three hits, a walk and a run-scoring fielder’s choice grounder for its seventh-inning runs. Scotty Burcham and Gunner Pollman had RBI singles.
The Utes (1-2) made five outs on the basepaths.
▪ UC Davis committed four errors in a 10-inning, 7-7 tie with Texas State in San Marcos, Texas. The game was called because of UCD’s travel curfew.
The errors led to five unearned runs for the Bobcats (0-2-1). UCD (2-0-1) stranded 14 runners.
UCD rallies for softball win
▪ UC Davis (4-7) tied it with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored an unearned run in the eighth for a 6-5 softball win over Santa Clara (2-9) in the Fresno State Kick-off. Christa Castello scored the winning run on a throwing error.
▪ Sasha Margulies had a walk-off single in the eighth, and Caitlin Brooks threw a three-hitter to lead Sac State (3-5) to a 1-0 victory over UC Riverside (6-3) in the Fresno State Kick-off.
