Mason Humes, Del Oro
One timeout didn't bother Mason Humes. Neither did two or three. Granite Bay did all it could to ice – or unnerve – the Del Oro senior kicker last Friday night, but to no avail. Humes' 28-yard field goal as time expired lifted Del Oro past the Grizzlies 30-28 in a Sierra Foothill League game. Besides three extra points, Humes made three field goals to earn The Bee's Prep of the Week honor as voted by fans on sacbee.com. Humes remained composed after the win as teammates rejoiced, and that's the way he's wired, coaches say. "He's got a calm about him but a little swagger, too," Del Oro coach Casey Taylor said. "He's a volleyball player who really hammers the ball at the net when we have team camps in the summer."
