A’s catcher Stephen Vogt had arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow Friday morning and is expected to recover in time for Opening Day, the team announced.
Vogt had a bone chip removed in a procedure performed by Dr. Jon Dickinson at Presidio Surgical Center in San Francisco, according to a news release. His projected recovery time is four to six weeks.
That would put Vogt behind other players when A’s pitchers and catchers hold their first workout in Mesa, Ariz., on Feb. 21. However, the team believes Vogt will be ready when they open the regular season April 4 against the White Sox in Oakland.
There was no mention of an impending surgery when the A’s held their FanFest event in Oakland last weekend. Vogt is coming off of a breakthrough season in which he batted .261 with 18 home runs and 71 RBIs and made his first All-Star team.
