The A's acquired third baseman Vinnie Catricala from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for a player to be named later or cash, the team announced Sunday.
Catricala, 24, was on the Mariners' 40-man roster before being designated for assignment June 2.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Sacramento native was batting .253 (44 for 174) with eight doubles, three home runs and 21 RBIs in 48 games with Double-A Jackson, Miss., this season.
The Contra Costa Times reported Catricala was assigned to Double-A Midland.
A graduate of Jesuit High School, Catricala was selected in the 10th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
His best minor–league season thus far came in 2011, when he combined for 48 doubles, 25 home runs and 106 RBIs in 133 games with Class-A High Desert and Double-A Jackson.
