Return to Tulsa all business for Republic FC’s Matt LaGrassa

Republic FC rookie midfielder Matt LaGrassa spent nearly a month on loan with the Tulsa Roughnecks FC earlier this summer. But the former Pleasant Grove High School standout won’t let that affect him when Republic FC plays its regular-season finale Saturday in Oklahoma. A victory over Tulsa would assure a second-place finish for Republic FC in the USL’s Western Conference and a potential second home playoff game.

Republic FC notes: Wilson Kneeshaw quickly finds the net

Republic FC’s signing of English forward Wilson Kneeshaw on Aug. 11 went largely unnoticed. But Kneeshaw, 22, who bounced around the lower levels of English soccer the last two years after a promising start in youth soccer, has scored two goals in three matches, including one that tied the score against LA Galaxy II last Saturday in Carson. The teams renew their rivalry Saturday at Bonney Field in Republic FC’s final regular-season home match.

Defender Elliott Hord comes full circle with Republic FC

New Republic FC defender Elliott Hord was in the stands at Bonney Field two years ago watching the team rally to beat LA Galaxy II 3-2 in the “Miracle at Bonney” in a USL semifinal playoff game. The player who stood out most to Hord was James Kiffe because both play outside back and played for opposing Premier Development League teams earlier in the year. Now, like Kiffe, Hord is helping Republic FC in its push toward the playoffs.

Harry Williams picks good time to get back into form for Republic FC

Harry Williams had been a forgotten man for Republic FC in recent weeks. The 20-year-old forward from England was a starter before a broken hand and some lineup juggling by coach Paul Buckle forced him into a reserve role. So it was a huge boost for Williams last Saturday night when he came off the bench in the second half and scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute to help Republic FC rally for a 2-1 win over the Orange County Blues FC at Bonney Field.

When he was 8, Jeremy Hall was devastated when registration was closed for the baseball league in his Tampa, Fla., neighborhood. But his younger brother said, “Let’s sign up for soccer.” The Republic FC midfielder and defender quickly fell in love with the sport, and he’s turned it into a career.

Republic FC clinches playoff berth with win over Orange County

Harry Williams scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute, former Pleasant Grove High star Matt LaGrassa scored his first professional goal, and Danny Barrera got his club record ninth assist of the season as Republic FC rallied for a 2-1 victory against the Orange County Blues FC in front of an announced sellout of 11,569 on Saturday night at Bonney Field.

Republic FC closing in on USL playoff berth

Sacramento can be the first USL club to clinch a Western Conference playoff berth when it hosts Orange County Blues FC on Saturday night at Bonney Field. A Republic FC win and a Real Monarchs SLC loss or tie against last-place Tulsa would do the trick.

Carlton Cole expects increased playing time with Republic FC

Following a training session at Cosumnes River College on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, former English Premier League star Carlton Cole talks about how good it was to get on the Bonney Field pitch last Saturday night in his Sacramento Republic FC's debut. Cole said with increased fitness, he expects to play more for Sacramento coach Paul Buckle, who says the Republic FC players are training hard with a chance to earn a spot in the eight-team Western Conference playoffs.
