Want to congratulate Republic FC on their latest victory? Start by tipping your hat to Trevin Caesar.
In the USL Game of the Week streamed live on ESPN3, the Trinidad and Tobago international put on a prime-time performance. He recorded his first hat trick with Sacramento and had an assist Wednesday night en route to a 6-2 rout of the Rio Grande Valley FC Toros at Papa Murphy’s Park.
With the victory, Sacramento (6-6-3, 21 points) sits alone in third place in the Western Conference standings. However, Republic FC is tied with the Tampa Bay Rowdies for the most games played this season in the USL at 15.
Rio Grande Valley, now in eighth place, falls to 5-6-2 (17).
Republic FC forward Wilson Kneeshaw kicked off the scoring Wednesday with a 19th-minute strike.
Sacramento forward Tyler Blackwood put the hosts up 2-0 on an assist from Caesar in the 27th.
Caesar then decided to join the scoring party.
His first goal came just before the break and put Republic FC up 3-0 at halftime.
He added a strike in the 57th and, after Rio Grande Valley finally scored in the 65th, Caesar completed the hat trick in the 72nd.
Daniel Trickett-Smith capped Sacramento’s scoring in the 88th. The Toros netted one in the 90th minute for the final margin.
Republic FC cruised in spite of being booked with three yellow cards. They’ll look for a cleaner performance Sunday, when they travel to StubHub Center in Carson to take on LA Galaxy II for the first time this season in USL play.
