For only the second time, Republic FC has a losing streak.
Coming off a lackluster loss to Orange County Blues FC, Republic FC fell 1-0 to expansion Real Monarchs SLC in Sandy, Utah, on Wednesday night, the team reported. The victory was the first for Real Monarchs (1-4-2).
Republic FC (4-4-0) was outshot 15-6, including 6-3 in shots on goal. Real Monarchs scored in the 67th minute when Max Rauhofer redirected Fito Ovalle’s shot from 25 yards into the net.
Republic FC had its best chance to tie in the 89th minute. Agustin Cazarez sent a cross to the back post, and Emrah Klimenta rose over the defender and headed the ball down toward the goal. But Lalo Fernandez made the save.
“I don’t know what it was; we were just flat tonight,” Republic FC goalkeeper Patrick McLain said.
Republic FC also lost back-to-back matches last April.
Sac State places second in Big Sky golf
Sacramento State finished second in the Big Sky Conference men’s golf championship at Greenhorn Creek in Angels Camp, the Hornets reported.
Sac State shot 3 under par in the final round for a 13 over total. Idaho won at 8 under.
Idaho’s Jared du Toit was the medalist, winning by five strokes after shooting a 6-under 66 for an 8-under 208 total. The Hornets’ Luke Kristo tied for third, closing with a 71 for a 216.
Hornets’ baseball losing streak grows
Sac State suffered its fourth consecutive baseball defeat, 2-0 to Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., the Hornets reported.
Sac State (22-23) had only four hits, all singles, and hit into four double plays. The Irish (29-16) had only five hits, including Ryan Bull’s first-inning solo homer.
