Republic FC announced the signing Wednesday of Welsh midfielder Chad Bond, Northern Irish forward Thomas Stewart, Montenegrin defender Nemanja Vukovic and English defender Jack Lane, pending approval from USL Pro.
Bond, an 11-year pro, played most recently for Port Talbot Town, a Welsh Premier League club. He has had two stints in the English Premier League and played for the Wales U-17 and U-19 national teams.
Vukovic, another 11-year veteran, last played for FK Mladost Podgorica, a top-tier club in his hometown of Podgorica, Montenegro. He is a former member of the Columbus Crew of MLS.
Stewart played previously with the Shamrock Rovers FC, a Premier Division club in Ireland. He has played eight years professionally and has scored 51 goals in 180 matches.
Lane played last season for the Ventura County Fusion of the USL Premier Development League and previously played in England for Chelsea’s Macclesfield Town FC and Salford City FC.
All four joined the team Wednesday for a scrimmage at Cosumnes River College against Saint Mary’s College.
Republic FC, a USL Pro expansion franchise, opens its inaugural season March 29 against the L.A. Galaxy II at the StubHub Center in Carson. Its first home match will be April 26 against the Harrisburg City Islanders at Hughes Stadium at Sacramento City College.
