Republic FC handed LA Galaxy II its first USL Pro loss of the season Sunday night, winning 3-0 in Carson, the Sacramento team reported in a press release.
Mickey Daly, Max Alvarez and Dakota Collins scored for Republic FC (2-1-1). LA Galaxy II also is 2-1-1. The teams tied 1-1 on March 29.
Daly opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with his second goal in as many matches. Alvarez’s corner kick was cleared to the edge of the box, where Thomas Stewart headed it to Daly, who chipped the ball over goalkeeper Brian Rowe.
Republic FC made it 2-0 just before halftime when Alvarez capitalized on a turnover and chipped the ball over on an onrushing Rowe on a breakaway for his first professional goal.
Collins ended the scoring in the 75th minute on a clear shot from about seven yards.
LA Galaxy took only three shots, and Republic FC goalkeeper Dominik Jakubek made one save.
“We put pressure on every guy who had the ball and took advantage of their mistakes” Alvarez said. “We knew that we need to be more skillful, and we didn’t take them lightly. We were prepared, had a game plan, and we executed.”
Republic FC visits Arizona United SC on Saturday in Peoria before its home opener April 26 against the Harrisburg City Islanders at Hughes Stadium.
Wondolowski has three goals this season for San Jose (0-2-2).
Federico Higuain scored his fourth goal of the season with a left-footed strike in the 44th minute for Columbus (3-1-1).
