Mexico’s national soccer team to play Chile at Levi’s Stadium on Sept. 6

Levi’s Stadium, which will get broken in Saturday when the MLS’ Earthquakes host the Seattle Sounders, will be the site of an even bigger soccer match later this year. The 49ers announced Tuesday that the Mexican national team, which has a huge following in the Bay Area, will play against Chile on Sept. 6. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The 49ers will play preseason exhibition games at Levi’s on Aug. 17 and Aug. 24. Their first regular-season game at the new stadium is set for Sept. 14 in a prime-time matchup against the Chicago Bears.
The international soccer match will be the first of two for the Mexican national team in the United States in September. El Tricolor, and its entertaining coach, Miguel Herrera, also will play Sept. 9 against Bolivia in Denver as the team prepares for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup and Copa America tournaments.
Earthquakes season ticket holders, Levi’s Stadium SBL owners and Visa account holders will have the first opportunities to purchase tickets today. Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday at 10 a.m.
