Coming off one road playoff win, UC Davis will try to do it again when it plays at No. 14 UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Big West Conference men’s soccer semifinals.
If UC Davis upsets the North Division champion Gauchos (12-5-2), the Aggies (8-9-3) would play at Cal Poly or Cal State Fullerton on Saturday in the Big West championship for only the second time in school history.
UCD advanced to the semifinals by beating CSUN 2-1 in overtime last Saturday behind senior forward Matt Wiesenfarth’s match-winning goal.
Wiesenfarfth, a Jesuit High School graduate, also had an assist in the match, and he is one point shy of All-American Quincy Amarikwa’s Division I Aggies record of 43 points. Wiesenfarth recently was named All-Big West Conference second team for the third consecutive year. He was the Big West Freshman of the Year in 2011.
The Aggies also are led by all-conference first team defender Lucas Mohageg and second-team selection Ryan Gross, a senior midfielder from Davis High School.
UC Santa Barbara defeated the Aggies 2-1 and 1-0 during the regular season.
