Postgame notes and quotes from the Kings’ 124-107 loss to the Atlanta Hawks at Philips Arena:
*The Kings allowed a season high in points, which was also the most the Hawks have scored this season.
*Someone forgot to tell the Kings Kyle Korver is a good shooter or they just don’t pay attention. Korver matched his career high with eight made three pointers (on 10 attempts) thanks in large part to the Kings who didn’t defend well at all.
“When you play against guys who are known shooters you have to have more urgency than we did tonight,” said Kings center DeMarcus Cousins.
Korver had a season-high 28 points. He’s made a three pointer in an NBA-record 95 consecutive games.
*Jeff Teague matched his career high with 15 assists. He met little resistance much of the night.
*The Kings gave up 39 points in the fourth quarter and amazingly that’s not their worst quarter of the season. They allowed 44 to Phoenix (without Eric Bledsoe) on Nov. 20. That was also in the fourth quarter, but the Kings had a big enough lead that they held on to win.
*This was actually the best Jimmer Fredette has looked in his backup point guard role with nine points, two rebounds and an assist. But no one was celebrating offense after this game. Derrick Williams had 12 points and three assists off the bench.
*The Hawks made a season-high 15 threes.
*The Kings allowed a season-worst 71 points in the second half.
*Michael Malone said he needs to do “a better job in teaching our defense” because of what’s gone wrong defensively so many times. Cousins disagreed, saying the gameplan is clear and the Kings’ lapses are “on us” as in the players.
*Rudy Gay had 22 points after leaving Tuesday’s loss at Charlotte with right knee stiffness. He has 20 or more points in three of his four games with the Kings.
