The Kings announced Wednesday forward Rudy Gay has officially exercised his player option for next season that will pay him $19.3 million this coming season.
Gay had informed the team of his decision Sunday, week before the June 30 deadline.
“We’re thrilled that Rudy will return to Sacramento next season,” said Kings chairman and majority owner Vivek Ranadivé in a statement. “He quickly demonstrated consistency both on the court and in the community, and we regard him as a valuable member of our organization moving forward.”
Gay averaged 20.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 55 games with the Kings.
Gay was acquired in December along with Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray from Toronto for Chuck Hayes, Patrick Patterson, John Salmons and Grevis Vasquez.
