Remember Sacramento Kings guard Jason Terry?

You probably don’t. He came to the Kings last season along with Reggie Evans in a trade for Marcus Thornton.

Terry never played for the Kings. He reported to the Kings, but headed back home to Dallas to rehab his knee, which had been a problem during a down season.

Terry said in a radio interview in Dallas that he would love to play for the Mavericks, where he was a former NBA Sixth Man of the Year and part of the 2011 NBA Champions.

“I won’t rule out returning back to Dallas,” Terry said. “It’s my home and my heart,” Terry said. “I bleed blue. I’m a Maverick.”

There’s a problem with that – Terry, 36, is still under contract with Sacramento.

The Kings have no intention of buying out the remaining $5.45 million left on Terry’s deal.

The Kings might opt to waive him for salary cap relief and “stretch” out the amount over three years against their cap, but the are no plans to pay Terry his entire salary to go away at this point.

The Kings’ plan was to get through the offseason, make moves and see where Terry stood and if he wanted to join the Kings.

The Kings want more veteran leaders in the locker room. And though the team signed Darren Collison and drafted Nik Stauskas, Terry could have value as a combo guard off the bench.

Based on his comments, it doesn’t matter what else the Kings do short of landing a superstar that would make them title contenders. Terry wants no part of Sacramento.

“I wouldn’t say it’s rebuilding, but a building process,” Terry said. “DeMarcus Cousins a huge talent. Attitude, a little shaky. Rudy Gay, not a proven winner in this league but a tremendous talent and a guy you can build around.

“They’re in transition right now. For me, at this point in my career, I want championships.”

Terry also wants a buyout. And if he insists on his full salary, he probably won’t get one from the Kings.

If he’s not traded before the season, I’d love to see him interact with Cousins and his “shaky” attitude at media day.
