Leading Off: Come on, guys, let's just play basketball

After the U.S. men's basketball team dispatches Australia today (2:15 p.m., NBCSN, 1320) and Argentina beats Brazil, they'll play in Friday's semifinals.

It will be a rematch of Monday's 126-97 blowout in which tempers flared and Carmelo Anthony was hit in the groin in what he called a "cheap shot."

Argentina's Facundo Campazzo apologized to Kobe Bryant but not to Anthony, Campazzo said, because Chris Paul hadn't apologized for punching him earlier.

That's not exactly the spirit of the Olympics. Let's hope everyone behaves Friday.

Haley Anderson, Granite Bay, swimming: The 10K open-water race begins at 4 a.m Thursday.
