While the latest version of the Dream Team is headed toward another gold medal, the Los Angeles Lakers are putting together their own dream team.
After Thursday's blockbuster deal, the Lakers' big four – Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol and Steve Nash – are all Olympians, either current or past.
Add Ron Artest to the starting five, and these Lakers would give this year's U.S. men's team a run for the gold, especially with Bryant switching from red, white and blue to purple and gold in our imaginary game.
Sure, the U.S. team has greater depth – with Carmelo Anthony, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Deron Williams and Andre Iguodala coming off the bench – but does it have anyone who could stop Howard inside? Tyson Chandler?
The Lakers' starting backcourt of Bryant and Nash, though much older, would be competitive against Kevin Durant and Chris Paul. And Gasol, Spain's best player, would likely match up against Kevin Love, leaving Artest to handle LeBron James.
The game would never happen, but we would love to see it.
