Republic FC re-signed midfielder Ivan Mirkovic and extended defender Emrah Klimenta’s contract on Friday.
Both returning starters signed two-year deals, keeping them with Republic FC through the 2016 season with a team option for 2017.
Republic FC will open the preseason on Saturdayat 7 p.m. against the Fresno Fuego in the Highway 99 Derby at Chukchansi Park in Fresno. Sacramento will play Monday at 7 p.m. against the Ventura County Fusion at the Ventura College Sportsplex.

Sprinter sets UCD mark
Ashley Marshall set a school record in the 200 meters, Cekarri Nixon posted a career best in the 200, and Katie Barber moved up the UC Davis indoor track and field all-time list in the high jump, highlighting the action for the Aggies at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque, UCD reported.
Marshall finished 21st in 24.33 seconds, breaking her record of 24.56 in last year’s Husky Invitational in Seattle. Nixon, third on the all-time list for the 200, finished 34th in 24.88.
Barber posted a personal record in the high jump for the second straight week. She cleared 5 feet, 61/2 inches on her first attempt, tying for fourth while moving up a spot into a tie for No. 4 all-time at UC Davis.
▪ Jessica Ravetti was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Paige Castro followed with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, propelling Sacramento State to a 4-2 victory over Northwestern State in the second round of the So Cal Collegiate Softball Tournament in Long Beach, according to Sac State.
Earlier, Long Beach State’s Christina Clermont allowed just one hit through five innings, and the 49ers took advantage of three Hornets errors on the way to an 8-0 victory in the season opener for both teams. The game was shortened to five innings because of the eight-run mercy rule.
▪ Krista Bava drove in two runs and Christa Castello had one RBI in UC Davis’ three-run third inning, but the Aggies lost their season opener to Louisville 6-4 at the Sportco Kick-Off Classic in Las Vegas, UCD reported. The Aggies met UNLV in a late game.
▪ UC Davis’ Luke Vivolo fired five birdies on the front nine and shot his second straight 3-under-par 69 to tie for 12th place after two rounds of the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawaii, according to UCD. Washington leads the 18-team field, and the Aggies are 10th.
