Highlight: Shane Peterson had two hits and drove in two runs, Daric Barton added three hits and Zach Neal allowed three hits over eight innings as the River Cats downed the Albuquerque Isotopes 6-1 on Friday night at Raley Field.
Triple-A debut: River Cats center fielder Billy Burns played his first game at Triple-A. In his previous 357 minor-league games, he had a .295 average in 1,313 at-bats with one home run. But, don’t worry about the lack of power. Speed is his game. He had 176 stolen bases. The 24-year-old batted leadoff and went 0 for 4, but scored two runs and had two stolen bases.
Double ejection: When Isotopes’ Joc Pederson was called out on a close play at first base, of all people, starting pitcher Jeff Bennett raced out of the dugout and argued with plate umpire Brian Hertzog, mainly because he wasn’t pleased with Hertzog the previous half-inning. Bennett got tossed. Then manager Damon Berryhill gave Hertzog an earful and soon joined his pitcher on the long walk to the clubhouse.
Today: River Cats LHP Drew Pomeranz (0-0, 3.68 ERA) vs. Las Vegas 51s LHP John Lannan (1-0, 0.00), 7:05 p.m., Raley Field.
