Leading Off: Raiders' Davis had right idea, fired wrong coach

Oakland's 34-3 loss in New Orleans on Sunday just reinforced the need for a coach to be fired to right the Raiders' ship.

Unfortunately, Al Davis hit the target, but he missed the bull's-eye.

Head coach Lane Kiffin should not have been fired. It should have been defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, the man Kiffin wanted to dump after last season.

For the second time this year, the Raiders allowed at least 30 points Sunday. Dating to Week 14 of last season, they have allowed 30 or more points five times in the past nine games. And it could have been six times had the Chargers' offense woken up earlier two weeks ago.

As someone who has watched Rob's dad, legendary defensive coach Buddy Ryan, Rob has been tarnishing the family legacy the past two years. He's not cutting it.

Rob looks great coaching. His long hair and loud demeanor harken memories of Raiders tough guys. Whether it is bad scheming or personnel, there's more wrong with the Raiders' defense than their offense.

It proves that Davis sees the world through Silver and Black glasses. Ryan looks the part of a great coach, but he doesn't act the part.
