Kings notes

Joe Maloof right about Kings' need to improve, Theus says

Published: Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008 - 12:00 am | Page 5C

Kings coach Reggie Theus, in light of recent comments made by team owner Joe Maloof that sparked talk about his job security, said there was one thing he wanted to get out there: He essentially agrees with Maloof.

"Joe's right in the sense that we have to get better," said Theus, who is on the hot seat as the Kings hold the option for next season on his three-year deal worth $6 million. "My job is to find a way to get better. …(The) last six or seven games, if you just take the time to look at the defensive numbers, they will tell you this team has gotten a lot better defensively from the start of the season."

Decorating sense – Walking into Hornets coach Byron Scott's office at New Orleans Arena, it's hard not to wonder if he's moving in or moving out. The blank beige walls with a cherrywood desk create an empty, cold space, which Scott's heard grief about.

"I haven't had pictures up in five years, so why change?" said Scott, who was an assistant coach for the Kings from 1998 to 2000.

A reporter joked with Scott that by not decorating, the Hornets coach fueled speculation of a move to the Los Angeles Lakers.

"Is that what it was?" Scott said laughing. "They looked around and said you don't have any pictures up so you must not plan on staying. Maybe I will put some pictures up so everyone leaves us alone."

Scott told the Los Angeles Times in a Nov. 12 story that the Lakers position "intrigued him," but ultimately he's happy with the Hornets.

Pride booster – Bobby Jackson hitting big shots didn't surprise anyone at New Orleans Arena. And it certainly didn't surprise the veteran guard, who admitted feeling pride was on the line.

Jackson played for the Hornets for two seasons before he was traded.

"No one wants to get traded," said Jackson, who scored eight points against his former team, including two three-pointers in the fourth quarter.
