Regional Digest: Sierra to host Santa Rosa in bowl game

Sierra College caps a record season today in the Premier West Bank Bowl against visiting Santa Rosa Junior College at 1 p.m.

The Wolverines, ranked No. 2 in Northern California, are in their eighth consecutive bowl under coach Jeff Tisdel. Sierra is also the first team to repeat as champion of the powerful Valley Conference.

Sierra (9-1) has the Valley Offensive Player of the Year in tailback Lamon Muldrow, who has rushed for a state-leading 23 touchdowns this season, and the Defensive Player of the Year in linebacker Bryson Littlejohn, a tackling machine who is garnering recruiting interest throughout the Pacific-10 Conference.

Other Sierra players to earn All-Valley honors: wide receivers Brandon Michalkiewicz and Justin Chastain; linebackers Paul Vassallo and Chris Briasco; defensive back Mike Grant; and linemen David Peterson, Adam Harmon and Sitani Tupou.

Sac City in Graffiti Bowl

Sacramento City College, fresh off its second Mid-Empire League championship in two seasons, will play host to Modesto Junior College in the Graffiti Bowl at 1 p.m today.

SCC lost to Modesto 44-14 Oct. 4 to fall to 1-4 before finishing 5-5. Lincoln Togiai was named the Mid-Empire Defensive Player of the Year. Other SCC players named all-conference were linemen Brian Crew, Rocky Sparks, John Tupou, Lewis Siler and Akiem Hicks; tight end Jon Krebs; tailback Lorenzo Andrews; kicker Derek Carothers; defensive backs Kevin Johnston and Kevin Watts; and linebacker Dan- iel Cordick.

Gymnast Nicole Meiller of Aurora, Ill., and volleyball player Allison Whitson from Palo Alto High School signed letters of intent to attend Sacramento State and UC Davis, respectively.

Aggies reach water polo semis

Aaron Salit scored a game-high three goals to lead No. 11 UC Davis (12-14) to a 6-4 win over No. 20 Air Force in the quarterfinals of the Western Water Polo Association men's tournament in Claremont.

Sac State loses volleyball match

Hayley Hills had a match-high 25 kills to lead visiting Eastern Washington to a 25-19, 23-25, 25-20, 36-34 win over Sac State (9-22, 7-8 Big Sky Conference) in volleyball.
