Though his ankle sprain has mostly healed, Kevin Martin remains frustrated. That's because another injury has delayed his return.
"The ankle is fine," Martin said. "It's the tendon behind it near the Achilles'. Nothing is torn, just a lot of fluid in there and it's deep. It's very frustrating. The way we were playing, we were about to turn the corner, and this happened.
"It's not because of me. If this happened to any starter, it would have the same effect."
Although an MRI on Tuesday revealed no torn ligaments, there is still no timetable for Martin's return.
Meanwhile, Francisco García was able to do a walkthrough at Friday morning's shootaround. It was a step in the right direction for García, who said he can't wait to return.
"I was running around a little bit, and it feels good," said García, who has yet to play this season because of a right calf strain suffered Oct. 18.
Mikki Moore is a game-time decision for Sunday's contest in Los Angeles against the Lakers and Monday's rematch against the Trail Blazers in Portland.
Rookie makes fast strides Donté Greene didn't expect to start in his first NBA season. But there he was Friday night, announced among the starting mix for a second consecutive game at small forward.
And Greene certainly didn't think he would be featured on any billboards in Sacramento. But there he was, looming over Interstate 5 with fellow rookies Jason Thompson and Bobby Brown and second-year center Spencer Hawes.
"I was laughing at it when I saw it," Greene said. "I didn't even know it was there. Coming here, I didn't think I'd be on a billboard my first year, and that's kind of exciting."
Greene says he isn't quite comfortable at Arco Arena, where he has scored 12 points and played 41 minutes over four games. "The shots weren't falling tonight," said Greene, who went 3 of 10 from the field for eight points against Portland.
Still, "I know what I am capable of doing, and I know my limits," Greene said. "I feel more comfortable when I start. I feel more relaxed. I have to get used to possibly coming off the bench with Kevin and 'Cisco coming back, but for right now, I'm just worried about going out there and performing."
Williams wants more minutes Shelden Williams admitted Friday to frustration with his role, or lack thereof.
Williams said he thought he would see more playing time with Moore sitting out the last three games with a right ankle sprain. He played two minutes against Portland and 15 against Memphis. He did not play against New Orleans.
