NIT selections include seven local basketball players

Seven basketball players with ties to the Sacramento area will compete for teams selected for 72nd edition of the National Invitation Tournament.

Players who might see action in games starting Tuesday are: Baylor University guard Fred Ellis of Sacramento High School; St. Mary's guard Wayne Hunter, Valley High School, and forward Ian O'Leary of Woodland Catholic High School; University of Kentucky guard Kevin Galloway, Sacramento High School; University of Nevada, Las Vegas, guard Mareceo Rutledge, Sheldon High School, and forward Rob Ketchum, Natomas High School; and University of New Mexico guard Nate Garth, Sacramento.

First-round games featuring local players:

• No. 6 Georgetown (16-14, 7-11) will play at No. 3 Baylor (20-14, 5-11) at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

• No. 7 Washington State (17-15, 8-10) will play at No. 2 St. Mary's (26-6,10-4) at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

• No. 5 UNLV (21-10, 9-7) will play at No. 4 Kentucky (20-13, 8-8) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

• No.6 Nebraska (18-12, 8-8) will play at No. 3 New Mexico (21-11, 12-4) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
