I suddenly want to buy a ticket to Las Vegas.
The Kings announced their roster and schedule Wednesday for the NBA Summer League later this month in Sin City. They also included an interesting tidbit: Pete Carril will coach the Kings' entry.
No offense to new head coach Paul Westphal, but I would pay to see Coachie, as Carril is known, run the Kings.
You see, it was Carril who solidified my love of the NCAA Tournament when he was coaching Princeton. The Tigers' near-upset of Georgetown in 1989 was unforgettable. Their 1996 victory over UCLA ranks as one of the greatest upsets in college basketball history.
I still can see him storming the sideline, looking incredulous at calls and almost pulling his hair out in agony.
He has since made his mark as an off-and-on assistant and consultant with the Kings.
Carril may not have the sideline moves he once did. But I'm sure he will show some emotion if a call happens to go the wrong way.
