SACRAMENTO -- A Bee series chronicling mistreatment of Latino forest workers received awards from two organizations this week.
The National Association of Hispanic Journalists recognized Bee staff writer Tom Knudson and photographer Hector Amezcua with a journalism award for their online presentation of the series "The Pineros: Men of the Pines."
The awards "honor Latino journalists for excellence in their specialized fields of work or any journalist for their outstanding coverage of the Latino community," according to the NAHJ.
Amezcua also received an award in the NAHJ's "Photo-News" category for a photo depicting a mother's grief.
In addition, the online presentation of "Pineros" was recognized by the Inter American Press Association's Online News Coverage Award.
