Full-time
employees are eligible upon date of hire, and may select
from Blue Shield

coverage with 80% employer-paid premium. Delta
Dental, Vision

Life, and the Employee Assistance Program are included.
Part-time employees are eligible to enroll in the Kaiser
plan upon meeting eligibility requirements. Part-time
employees also have the opportunity to purchase Starbridge
medical, dental, vision and life insurance benefits via
convenient payroll deductions. Starbridge
is an employee-sponsored plan. |

Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) |
The
Company's Employee Assistance Program provides voluntary
and confidential support to assist you and your
family in resolving issues that affect your work or personal
life. All employees and their dependents are automatically
enrolled in this coverage. |

Domestic Partner Program |
The
Company maintains a strong commitment to diversity and
equal opportunities. In keeping with that commitment,
health coverage is extended to domestic partners and their
legal dependents. If you qualify to participate in either
the Kaiser or Blue Shield medical plans, you may enroll
your domestic partner and their legal dependent children
on the plan upon meeting eligibility criteria. |

Life Insurance |
Full-time
employees are provided with a basic term life insurance
policy at no cost. |
| Flexible
Spending Account (FSA) |
You
may also qualify to participate in the Flexible Spending
Account (FSA) if you qualify for either the Kaiser
or Blue
Shield medical plan. The FSA allows you to pay for
eligible medical and dependent care expenses with before-tax
dollars. The result is lower taxes and higher spendable
income. |

Pre-Tax Parking/ Transportation Benefit |
Employees
may reduce taxable income by up to $175 per month for
work-related parking and/or up to $65 per month for public
transportation to commute to work. The Bee offers parking
spaces in our secured garage for $20 per month (pre-tax). |

Disability Income Protection |
Full-time
employees are eligible for employer-paid Long-Term Disability
coverage at 40% of base pay through UNUM Life Insurance
Company. Employees also have the option to purchase additional
coverage up to 60% of base pay. |

Sick Leave |
After
three months of employment, full-time employees are eligible
for incidental sick leave benefits of up to ten days per
calendar year. |

Vacation |
Full-time
employees accrue three weeks of vacation per year and
four weeks vacation after five years of full-time employment. |

Holidays |
The
Sacramento Bee recognizes seven paid holidays for
full-time employees, as well as a day off with pay for
birthdays. |

Wellness Days |
Full-time
employees who achieve perfect attendance during a specified
six-month period are awarded one additional paid day off
for each six-month period. |

Adoption Assistance |
Adoption
assistance provides you with up to $2,000 per child to
reimburse expenses associated with legally adopting a
child under age 17. Benefits provided under this program
are taxable and will be reported as taxable income on
your Form W-2. You are eligible for this program if you
qualify for either the Kaiser or Blue Shield medical plans. |

Education Tuition Assistance |
You
may be eligible for tuition reimbursement in your coursework
that helps you to perform your current duties or qualifies
you for career advancement at The Bee. Employees are eligible
after six months full-time employment, and may receive
up to $1,500 reimbursement per year up to a lifetime maximum
of $7,500. Part-time employees who become eligible for
Kaiser
may also participate in this program. |

Success Sharing |
Success
Sharing provides an annual bonus to eligible employees
if The Bee's annual profit goals are achieved. Employees
working a minimum of 500 hours per year shall receive
a pro-rated share based on hours credited during the fiscal
year. Employees working 1,820 hours or more receive a
full share. |

McClatchy Newspapers Restated Retirement Plan |
Employees
become eligible to participate in The McClatchy Newspapers
Restated Retirement Plan after completing 375 hours of
work in a six-month period. Employees are automatically
enrolled and contributions to the plan are made completely
by the Company. Your benefits are 100% vested after completing
five years of service with at least 1,450 hours of service
per year. Vested employees are eligible to receive retirement
benefits beginning at age 55. |

The Money Shelter 401(k) Plan |
Employees
become eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan six
months after becoming enrolled in The McClatchy Newspapers
Restated Retirement Plan. Employees can contribute from
one percent to 21 percent of their base pay, before-tax
and/or after-tax. The Company matches two-thirds of the
first six percent of the employees' before-tax salary
deferral. The Company will match $25 per quarter for each
one percent of the first six percent of employees' contributions
for employees who earn $15,000 or less a year. |

Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) |
Employees
become eligible to participate in The Employee Stock Purchase
Plan after working six consecutive months and averaging
of 20 hours or more per week. This plan offers eligible
employees the opportunity to purchase shares of McClatchy
Newspapers Class A Common Stock at reduced rates through
payroll deductions. |

Child Care Center |
The
Sacramento Bee was the first private employer in downtown
Sacramento to offer on-site childcare. The Company offers
subsidized rates to employees who utilize its services.
The center accommodates 48 children from six weeks of
age to six years. |

Fitness Center |
Our
fitness center is equipped with treadmills, Stairmasters,
Elliptical Trainers, rowing machines, free weights and
an exercise room for aerobics. It is available to employees
24 hours a day, 7 days per week. A nominal membership
fee is charged through payroll deduction. |

Dining Center |
A
full-service subsidized employee dining center is open
Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 12:30 a.m.
and offers a variety of hot entrees and daily specials,
as well as soup, salad, and snacks. |

Employee Health Unit |
The
Employee Health Unit, which is open Monday through Friday,
provides pre-placement physical examinations, consultations
and/or treatment if you become ill during your regularly
scheduled working hours. Services are provided at no cost
to you. |

Credit
Union membership is open to regular active employees of
The Sacramento Bee. Services available to members include
savings accounts, loans and discounts to amusement parks.
