Geoffrey Prettyman, 18, and his father, Geoff, work on a digital photography class at Cosumnes River College. Book of Dreams readers purchased Geoffrey a new laptop which he uses in his classes.

Student draws inspiration from computer

Geoffrey Prettyman stayed up late into the night recently to set up his new laptop computer.

The 18-year-old Elk Grove resident, who dreams of becoming an animator and artist for Disney, uses the laptop to complete his assignments for his photography class at Cosumnes River College.

"I love it. I can bring it with me when I go places," Prettyman said through his mother, Deborah Prettyman, who interpreted her son's sign language.

Book of Dreams readers donated the laptop to Prettyman. The young man is hearing impaired and plans to use the laptop for homework assignments and to communicate with friends via the Internet.

"He's been using it for his photography class assignments ... and he checks his e-mails from his friends," Deborah Prettyman said.

Geoffrey Prettyman already has achieved honors. He attained Eagle Scout status and won an art contest at the California State Fair. He met President Bush through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Now, with his new computer, he hopes to achieve more of his goals.
