Vaverri Turner's new dresser sits in a cardboard box in her living room, waiting to be assembled.
Boxes in the bedroom she shares with her 5-year-old son also need to be unpacked. And a new trundle bed is scheduled to arrive soon.
"I have to vacuum the carpet, put up the bed, clean the shades in the window and clean out the closet," Turner said, listing some of the tasks she needs to complete in her new home.
Turner doesn't mind the amount of housework that is required to move into her new home. She relishes it.
After being homeless for the past few months, Turner has landed on her feet, sharing a home with another woman and her young son. She also has found a good job.
"It's a really nice area, and the school is across the street, and I have a really nice roommate," she said as she showed visitors her new digs.
Turner has found a safe home, thanks to the help of Family Promise, a nonprofit agency that works to find housing and jobs for homeless families.
She has furniture to arrange in that home, in part, because Book of Dreams readers donated bedding, furniture, small kitchen appliances and household cleaners to Family Promise.
