Independence will come a bit easier to Rachel Tessa Day.
The 25-year-old, who was born with cerebral palsy, started living on her own for the first time a few months ago. She's excited about her new apartment but still must have aides help her with some daily tasks, including showering.
Rachel has needed an aide to help her because the apartment shower has a bench that is unstable.
Book of Dreams readers purchased a shower chair for Rachel that is more stable and will allow her to shower without the aid of another person.
"I'll be able to get in and out of the shower easier, without being lifted into the shower," Day said. "That will make me more independent."
Rachel's mother, Wendie Day, also believes the shower chair will be a big help.
"I just know that she's been working toward having this apartment for several years," said Wendie Day. "It's pretty accessible except for that bathroom shower. (The chair) really will make it so she can shower without so much help."
