Keeping track of vital paperwork for homeless clients at the Loaves & Fishes campus will become a bit easier.
Book of Dreams readers purchased an electronic scanner and CDs so that volunteers from the Legal Center for the Elderly and Disabled who come to the campus to work with homeless people can electronically store their clients' paperwork.
Often, people who are homeless have trouble keeping track of paperwork that is needed to apply for housing and benefits. Moving from place to place can increase the chances of paperwork being misplaced.
Workers with the Legal Center for the Elderly and Disabled help clients apply for housing and benefits or to clear up other legal issues. They plan to use the scanner and discs to scan vital documents so they may be stored in a computer. That way, if the documents are later lost, they will have a record of them.
"The scanner will be invaluable in helping to provide a service to the underserved homeless population," Cathie Adams, a program director for the legal center, said in a written note to The Bee.
