With her new laptop computer connected to the Internet, Kathleen McGee is launching a new era in her life.
Book of Dreams readers purchased a laptop computer for McGee, 59, who lives in a nursing home because of her progressive multiple sclerosis. Once physically active, McGee uses a wheelchair to get around and tires easily.
But her positive attitude and need for socialization have pushed her to start an online support group for people in nursing homes. She intends to use her laptop computer to launch the group.
"I'd also like to use it for friends and family members of residents in the nursing homes to have a family forum," McGee said. "People can keep in contact and learn about what's going on."
McGee said she's on a steep learning curve using the computer, since she hasn't operated one for seven to 10 years. With her enterprising spirit, it's a challenge she relishes.
"It's great. I really enjoy it," she said of the computer. "I've got all kinds of ideas of things I want to do with it."
