The Sacramento Bee Strawberry Recipe Contest Entry Rules
- Recipes for The Sacramento Bee Strawberry Recipe Contest 2004 must be original and specify the use of Fresh California Strawberries. Entry must serve six (6) and take less than two (2) hours preparation time. The recipe contest encourages the use of strawberries as a key ingredient and fresh ingredients where appropriate.
- Recipes submitted must qualify for one of the following categories: Main dish, Side Dish, Dessert Dish.
- Contestants may enter one recipe per category, one entry per envelope or Internet transmission. Each entry must be typed or hand-printed legibly, in recipe format. Recipe format lists ingredients in order of use with amount/quantity, followed by step-by-step method of preparation. The contestant name, address, telephone number, and email address (when available) must be included with each recipe submission.
- Professional chefs, cooks, food stylists and other food specialists are prohibited from entering this contest. Contest is open to U.S. residents only, twenty-one (21) years of age or older. Void wherever prohibited, taxed or restricted by state or local law.
- Recipes must be mailed, or transmitted via the Internet to taste@sacbee.com, the subject line to include: Strawberry Recipe Contest and postmarked/email validated no later than April 2, 2004. All recipes submitted as entries become the property of The Sacramento Bee and the Placer County Strawberry Festival. By entering the contest, all participants consent to the commercial use of their name, picture, likeness and recipe for advertising and publicity purposes without further compensation.
- The Sacramento Bee "Taste" editors will consider qualifying entries. They will select the ten finalists in each category. Notification and details of finalist participation will be made to the thirty finalists by April 8, 2004. A certification of recipe originality will be required from each finalist. Finalists must participate personally in the on site recipe contest to be eligible for prizes.
- Each finalist will receive a special festival basket that includes a Sacramento Bee Apron, 4 Festival Passes, and additional festival items.
- Finalists provide the ingredients necessary for their recipes to produce their final entry.
- On April 17, 2004, between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., dishes will be brought to the Placer County Strawberry Festival to be judged by a panel of three to five local chefs, celebrities and/or food experts. Selection of the judges is at the sole discretion of the Strawberry Festival Recipe Contest Committee. The basis for judging will be ease of preparation, flavor, texture, creativity, appearance and use of strawberry. The decision of the judging panel is final and binding.
- Judging will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. Winners will be announced on The Sacramento Bee stage at Noon on Saturday, April 17, 2004.
- Prizes at The Sacramento Bee Recipe Contest are offered only to those finalists who participate in the final judging on April 17, 2004. The prizes are: $200 Costco gift certificate and $250.00 in Cash for first place in each category; Dinner for 2 at a local restaurant and winners ribbon for second and third place winners in each category. All taxes are the sole responsibility of the winners.
- Winning recipes in each category will be published in the Sacramento Bee "Taste" section on Wednesday, April 21, 2004.
- Any dishes, display items or other materials to be returned must be picked up no later than 5 p.m. on Sunday April 18, 2004 at the judging table. Items not claimed by that time will be disposed of.
- By entering this contest, entrants agree to The Sacramento Bee and The Placer County Strawberry Festival's use of their name, photographic likeness, and recipe in advertising and publicity related to the Festival without restriction. Further, entrant authorizes the Festival to publish recipe(s) without restrictions or limitations.

There are no heating or cooling facilities at the Placer County Fair and Event Center.
Entries must be submitted ready to serve between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. on April 17, 2004.
The Sacramento Bee, The Placer County Strawberry Festival, their Officers and Committee, A Hometown Affair, Inc. and any co-sponsor of this event are not responsible for any injury which may be suffered by the participant while traveling to and from this activity designated in this notice. The overseeing agency and its co-sponsors have no medical insurance for individuals, and injury will be at your own responsibility. Under California law, an individual is responsible for any and all property damage, personal and private, which may occur during the course of this activity as designated in this notice. Additionally, the participant acknowledges that the PCSF and The Sacramento Bee reserves the right to photograph facilities, activities and program participants for potential future use for promotional or publicity purposes only.
