A Demographic Profile of Sacramento

The median age of area residents is 34.9 years with 74.3% over the age of 18%. A full 42.7% of area residents are between the ages of 25 and 54. Males and females are evenly split at 49.1% and 50.9% respectively.

Nearly 18% of area residents (17.9%) are Hispanic or Latino, among the remaining 82.0% of persons:

  • White: 65.7%
  • Asian: 10.8%
  • American Indian, Native Hawaiian or Other 9.7%
  • African American: 7.2%
  • Two or More Races: 6.5%

Among adults over the age of 25, 18% have earned a Bachelor’s Degree with an additional 9.2% having earned a Master’s, Professional or Doctorate Degree. Both levels are well above the National average.

An estimated 46.8% of area residents over the age of 16 are employed. This group comprises 77.4% of total area persons. Among that group 66.5% are classified as white collar, 18.4% blue collar and 15.1% are service or farm workers. Among the same 46.8% of employed residents:

  • 28.5% are in Sales and Office sectors
  • 22.5% are in Professional and Related Occupations
  • 15.7% are in Management, Business and Financial Operations
  • 14.3% are in Service
  • 9.6% are in Production, Transportation and Material Moving
  • 8.7% are in Construction, Extraction and Maintenance
  • 0.6% are in Farming, Fishing and Forestry
