A year of lawsuits

This interactive map pinpoints the more than 180 businesses in the Sacramento and Chico area sued last year in federal court for alleged Americans with Disabilities Act violations by the state's two busiest ADA attorneys, Scott N. Johnson of Carmichael and Lynn Hubbard III of Chico.

Such suits rarely go to trial; they tend to be settled out of court or dismissed, which can mean they were settled or not pursued for reasons including lack of evidence of a violation.

Lawsuits filed by Hubbard are marked in gray. Johnson's lawsuits are marked in blue and include five suits where he filed using Clayton attorney Thomas N. Stewart III.

Records were compiled from U.S. District Court files by Sacramento Bee reporters Marjie Lundstrom and Sam Stanton. Google Maps script created by Bee reporter Dan Nguyen.
