Tom Knudson

Tom Knudson has worked at The Bee since 1988. In 1992, he wrote a series of stories about the Sierra Nevada that received a Pulitzer Prize for public service. Knudson also won a Pulitzer Prize for national reporting at the Des Moines Register in 1985. This spring, Knudson received a citation for excellence for international environmental reporting from the Overseas Press Club of America for the “State of Denial” series about California's global demand for natural resources. Edie Lau has written about science for The Bee since 1997. Her last special report followed a veterinary research team chasing a cure for brain cancer. Mike Lee

Reporter Mike Lee covers agriculture and biotechnology for The Bee. Before coming to the newspaper in 2003, he worked for another newspaper owned by The McClatchy Co., the Tri-City (Wash.) Herald. While there, Lee reported on natural resources and won the Society of Professional Journalists award for top investigative reporting in the nation at a small newspaper. Renée C. Byer, who joined The Bee in 2003 from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, is an award-winning photographer, designer and picture editor. She's taken honors from the National Press Photographers Association Pictures of the Year, Society of for News Design, Associated Press, and the Best of the West photo and design contest. Nathaniel Levine

Nathaniel Levine previously produced the graphics for “Rising Risk,” The Bee's series on Sacramento's deteriorating levees and flood-control system. Levine, who has been at The Bee since December, earlier worked for the Army Times, where he distinguished himself with his visual reporting on the U.S. military services.
