On July 15, 1949, the Government acquired .05 license acre from East Bay Municipal Utility District for a total acreage of 73.96. The site was located in Alameda County, one mile northeast of Berkeley, CA. The site was used as a Very High Frequency (VHF) site for Hamilton Air Force Base. Improvements to the site included a concrete civil defense building, barracks, mess hall, latrine, administration building, two antenna stations (concrete buildings and antenna), concrete pump house, pipeline, and two wooden water tanks. On October 28, 1952, 73.91 lease acres were terminated. On October 29, 1952, .05 license acre was transferred to the Army. Records did not indicate if restoration was required. |
| Camp Ashby | | Berkeley | On 1 January 1942, 12.65 leased acres and 0.88 permit acres were acquired from private property owners, the State of California, and the City of Berkeley for the San Francisco Port of Embarkation in the 6th Army Area. The site was used by the 779th Military Police unit, which patrolled parts of the Bay Area. The leases were terminated between 1 January 1942 and 11 October 1946. The permit terminated on 11 October 1946. Improvements consisted of administrative buildings, furnace control houses, water tank & tower, water cooling tower, electric crane, oil tanks (above and underground), transformer building oil pump house and forgings building.On 18 June 1963, 2.94 fee acres were quitclaimed to Lerner Investment Co. subject to right-of-way and easement restrictions. There are no recapture rights. Mr. Phelps Dodge of Airco, Inc. acquired the site in 1965 and added a high temperature furnace and a large bank if transformers. Barker Machinery purchased the property in January 1978 for wholesaling large machinery. The current owners are Timothy and Susan Southwick, who purchased the site in may 1987 for use as a car dealership. |

| Emeryville Ordnance Depot | 42.41 | Emeryville | Beginning 15 March 1942, the United States (U. S.) acquired interest of 42.415 acres which comprised the Emeryville Storage Area, San Francisco Port of Embarkation, San Francisco. The site consisted of three separate parcels of real estate, bound by 65th Street to the north, Doyle and San Pedro Streets to the east, 45th Street to the south, and Southern Pacific Railroad main line tracks to the west. The site was used for the receipt, inspection, service, and perpetration of vehicles prior to shipment to overseas destinations. The Emeryville Storage Area was declared surplus, and 37.335 lease acres, 1.980 permit acres, and 0.10 license acres were disposed by lease, license, or permit termination by 15 October 1946. Tract lease 20, Lease No. WO4-193-ENG-3976 consisting of three lease acres was transferred to the U.S. War Shipping Administration located on Oakland Army Base. |

| Naval Industrial Repair Facility Oakland | 22.80 | Oakland | In 1942, the U.S. entered into a contract for ship repair facilities with Hurley Marine Works, Inc., which leased 19.4 acres of land from the Port of Oakland beginning in 1940 to form the NIR Repair Facility. In 1944, Amendment No. 4 to the Hurley contract provided for an expansion of the property to establish the NIR, which was comprised of approximately 3.4 acres of the Hurley property in Alameda County. The exact date of disposal is not known, but in 1951 the site was occupied Crowley Maritime Corporation until 1991. the Port of Oakland razed the buildings comprising the NIR in 1998 in a renovation of the industrial waterfront. | Pacific Overseas Air Service Command Staging Area | 7.55 | Oakland | During 1942, the U.S. acquired leaseholds, by four leases, for 6.942 acres of land and also a revocable permit, by a donation, for 0.617 of an acre. The total land acquired was 7.559 acres. The Pacific Overseas Air Service Command Staging Area was located within the City of Oakland, in Alameda County, California. The site was acquired for use as open storage for the Air Force, Pacific Overseas Air Service Command. Historical records show that an office and warehouse were leased facilities and five buildings were sold in 1946, possibly barracks. During 1945 and 1946, the U.S. canceled four leases and terminated the revocable permit for a total of 7.559 acres of land. The revocable permit made mention of the U.S. to remove any paving done on the permitted parcels of land. There were no records of the four lease agreements. |

By agreement dated 16 November 1949, the U.S. surrendered its leasehold interest to the City of Oakland. | Parks Afb | 3914.36 | Pleasanton | In 1942, the U.S. Government acquired 3,912.09 fee acres, 1.73 acres in three perpetual easements, 0.54 acres by two permits, and one no-area easement. The Navy built a training center known as Shoemaker Naval Reservation from 1942 to 1944. In 1953, 3,912.09 fee acres were transferred from the Navy to the Air Force along with the 1.73 easement acres, 0.54 permit acres and the no-area easement. Two acres were leased to a construction company and not used by the military in a manner where contamination by ordnance would have occured. In 1956, two acres were reported excess to the General Services Administration (GSA), which were quitclaimed the following year. The U.S. reserved 0.14 of the two acres for easement which was transferred to the Army in 1959 for Camp Parks. Also transferred to the Army that year were 3,910.09 fee acres, 0.54 permit acres, and 1.73 easement acres. In 1964, the property was declared excess, but the Department of the Army ordered 1,600 acres to be retained for National Guard and Navy use. At present, 2204.675 acres are operated by Camp Parks. The sewage lagoon (139.29 acres) is owned by the Dublin San Ramon Services District. Alameda County Flood Control Zone 7 owns Well Sites No. 1 and 2. The Well Site No. 2 (60 acres) is owned by the City of Pleasanton. On 11 July 1969, 591.84 fee acres were transferred to the County of Alameda. Of the original 3,914.36 acres, 2,713.47 acres are currently owned by the U.S. for Camp Parks Army Reserve Base. An 11.62 acre parcel is also owned by the U.S. for a naval radar station. The remaining 1,187.27 acres have been transferred to other non-federal government entities. Based on the foregoing, the 1,187.27 acres have been determined to be formerly used by the Department of Defense (DoD) and are eligible for the Defense Environmental Restoration Program for Formerly Used Defense Sites established under 10 U.S.C. 2701 et seq. |
