| Madera Air Force Station | 55.82 | Madera | Madera Airport was located approx five miles north of Madera, Madera County, CA. In August of 1956, 51.24 and 4.58 acres were acquired from Mr. Joseph B. Mendoza and Mr. Robert A. Howe, respectively. A total of 55.82 acres were acquired for the site. The oil, gas, and mineral rights were retained by the original owners. The acreage was acquired with a no area Encroachment Permit to Madera County for an indefinite term to maintain driveways and utility lines in the Madera Family Housing Annex. The site was jointly used by the Air Force and the Federal Aviation Agency as a radio control station. In 1964 there were 64 structures on the premises which consisted of one office, seven storage buildings and 56 other buildings used primarily for housing. |
| Madera Bombing Range | 3821.50 | Madera | The U.S. leased six square miles (3,821.25 acres) from R.K. Smith and Mary Smith on 11 August 1941 for use as a bombing range by the U.S. Army Air Corps and Navy. The range was used for skip and dive bombing, rocket practice, and a mock city and pier were constructed for target practice. A Supplemental Agreement terminated the lease on 23 October 1946. The property is now part of a subdivision, elementary school, and a portion is owned by 5 S Ranches, Inc. Based on the foregoing, the site has been determined to be formerly used by the DOD and is eligible for the Defense Environmental Restoration Program for Formerly Used Defense Sites established under 10 U.S.C. 2701 et seq. |
