Laytonville Gap Filler Annex14.81LaytonvilleOn 24 Feb. 1960, the US Air Force acquired 8.72 license acres. The Air Force also acquired 6.09 public domain acres by transfer from the Dept. of Interior (DOI). Total acreage acquired for the subject site was 14.81. The site was situated in Mendocino County, five miles west of Laytonville, and was used by the Air Defense Command Installation as an unmanned radar gap filler station. The primary installation for this site was Point Arena Air Force Station (P37) Cahto Peak, Mendocino County, CA. The improvements were a concrete block building, chain link fence and a gravel surfaced road. On 30 August 1963, 6.09 public domain acres were re-transferred to DOI. On 1 NOv. 1963, 8.72 license acres terminated without restoration.
Point Cabrillo Radar Simulator Annex4.40MendocinoIn 1962, 4.4 permit acres were transferred from the Department of the Treasury to the Department of the Army. The Department of the Air Force was then granted use of the acreage by means of license. The site was used as a radar simulator facility. The property was retransferred to the Department of the Treasury on 15 July 1974 by a use permit. Based on the foregoing, the site has been determined to be formerly used by the DOD and is eligible for the Defense Environemental Restoration Program for Formerly Used Defense Sites, established under 10 U.S.C. 2701 et seq.
Russian Gulch Camp Site6.50MendocinoIn 1942 or 1943, the U.S. War Department acquired 6.5 acres of land by use permit and donation from the State of California. The site was used for a campsite. The permit was terminated in 1944, at which time, the site returned to the State of California. Based on the foregoing, the site has been determined to be formerly used by the DOD and is eligible for the Defense Environemental Restoration Program for Formerly Used Defense Sites, established under 10 U.S.C. 2701 et seq.
Point Arena Communication Facility Annex97.20Point ArenaPrior to 2 July 1947, the U.S. acquired 97.20 lease acres. The site was used as a radar site by the Air Force. On 30 September 1949, 97.20 lease acres were terminated. An active Point Arena Air Force Radar Station is located on approximately 98 acres on what is assumed to be the same site. The property was purchased by the U.S.A. in 1955, 1961, and 1965. Based on the foregoing, the site has been determined to be currently used by the Department of Defense (DoD) and is not eligible for the Defense Environmental Restoration Program for Formerly Used Defense Sites, established under 10 U.S.C. 2701 et seq.
